We wish all of our students, staff, families, and community members a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a wonderful New Year! As we move into January, the 2026 Legislative Session will begin. In his recent budget address, Governor Rhoden proposed a 0% increase to public education funding. This proposal would set schools back significantly, as ongoing costs (such as insurance, utilities, supplies, etc.) continue to rise. I encourage you to learn more about this issue and reach out to your District 16 legislators to share your thoughts and support for public education.

The videos (links 2 and 3), created by Louie Krogman, Superintendent of White River, use AI technology to explain how school funding works in South Dakota. They do an excellent job illustrating the challenges districts face when funding remains flat.

Help Marion's CTE Program:

Our program must complete various activities and paperwork each year to qualify for Perkins funding throughout the Carl Perkins Federal Legislation and the SD DOE. This funding includes equipment, grants, curriculum, and many professional development opportunities for the CTE teachers and students at Marion School. The state needs feedback on parents' knowledge of CTE programs in the school. The Marion Band played holiday selections at the Tieszen Memorial Nursing Home today.

Bear Care spent some time at the Tieszen Memorial Home spreading Christmas joy last Friday. The kids and residents truly enjoyed it.

***CONCERT RESCHEDULED - Good afternoon, the PK-12 choral and band concert has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 17th, at 2:00pm in the New Gym. We understand that the time/date may not be ideal for everyone, but we hope you can attend. This decision was made based on the limited number of school days remaining before break and to accommodate student availability with other scheduled extracurricular activities. We are looking at the possibility of livestreaming/recording the event, but need to ensure we're meeting copyright laws (so this may not be possible...we'll communicate when we know more). If you have further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Mr. Brosnahan at the school. Chemistry and Bio II students checked out the Sanford Research Center yesterday-- they may have even learned some things!

Due to the weather impact today the Marion School District will be closing early today at 1:15. Please communicate with the main office for pick up/bus arrangements. Tonight's scheduled muisic/band conference will be rescheduled for a later date. Stay safe everyone!

Due to the impending weather this evening, the Rebel Wrestling Quad in Freeman has been postponed. A new date will be set later. Wrestling practice will take place from 4-6pm tonight.

Due to the impending weather this evening, the JH Girls Basketball game scheduled in Canton at 4pm has been postponed to Friday, December 12th. Tip-off is scheduled for 4pm.

Congratulations to Harli Ross for earning a Superior Rating at the State Oral Intrepretation Contest in the category of Storytelling! Her piece, "The Lady or the Tiger" was a fantastic cliffhanger...Please ask her about it! Congrats Harli!
